Asia's biggest hospitality event kicks off in Bangkok

Asia's biggest hospitality event kicked off in downtown Bangkok Wednesday as thousands of professionals from this industry come to join the exhibitions, seminars and contests here in next four days.

According to Thai Hotels Association, the co-organizer, Food & Hotel Thailand 2009 attracts 756 brands from all over the world to take part in the exhibition, which features an wide range of products and services from food, beverage, bakeries, seasonings, wine to glassware, kitchenware, and retail and hotel equipment and software.

"Although we witnessed the economic slowdown at the beginning of this year, we are now seeing positive signs of recovery. Food and Hotel Thailand is one of the three biggest trade fairs held in Asia, raising the awareness that Thailand is the center of the world's hospitality bushiness," said Prakit Chinamourphong, president of the association.

It is expected this year's event will attract in the region of 25,000 visitors from 60 countries, and generate more than 180 million baht (5.29 million U.S. dollars) from transactions, followed by 650 million baht from post event activities, said Prakit.

Among the exhibitors there are international companies from 32 countries including Japan, South Africa and U.S. Visitors can enjoy some drink samples from Nestle and buy products from Victorinox with half price.

Besides the exhibition, other events are to be held from Wednesday to Saturday to enhance visitors' experience, such as the Asia's 1st Culinary Cup that assembles more than 600 award-winning chefs from around the world, the Wedding Flower Decoration Festival and the International Wine Challenge.
