The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will strengthen relations with the countries that are friendly toward it, a top legislator said on Thursday.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, said the DPRK vowed to frustrate "the reckless political and military provocations" of the United States and South Korea, the official KCNA news agency reported.

The DPRK will also make efforts to maintain the stability of the Korean Peninsula, realize national reunification and safeguard global peace, the top legislator said.

He made such remarks at a national meeting marking the 45th anniversary of the top DPRK leader Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
