30 missing in boat accident in western Indonesia, 8 reportedly dead

A wooden boat carrying a group of marriage party-goers sank in Duami waters, Riau province, western Indonesia on Saturday, with 30 passengers still missing, the national Antara news agency reported.

The wooden fishing boat carrying a total 60 passengers was sailing from Mundam village, Dumai, to Batu Panjang in Rupat Island.

On the way, the boat ran into bad whether and strong winds so that it leaked and sank about a half mile from the Mundam beach at about 4 p.m. (0900 GMT).

But according to Indonesian news portal Detiknews.com, there were 50 people on board when the boat sank at about 4.30 p.m. local time (0930 GMT). Of them, eight were found dead, another eight were saved, and the rest were still missing.
