Local police said the accident occurred after a tire of the over-crowded bus burst out and the bus fell into a ditch in Peerganj sub-district in Rangpur, about 300 km of capital Dhaka.

Most victims are believed to be laborers. They were traveling on the roof of the bus.

The injured passengers were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where condition of 16 was stated to be bad, hospital sources said.
