Bangladesh's elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early Monday arrested British man Faisal Mustafa, alleged patron of a Islamic school-cum-orphanage in the country where huge arms and ammunition were retrieved last month.

Senior RAB spokesman Major Sakhawat Hossain told Xinhua on Monday, "A contingent of RAB arrested the chief of the London-based NGO Green Crescent Faisal Mustafa and his accomplice Saifuddin Badal from a near by district of capital Dhaka early this morning."

He said the British citizen was arrested in connection to recovery of huge arms and ammunition from his religious school-cum-orphanage in the country's Bhola district, some 200 km southeast of capital Dhaka, on March 24.

According to local police, the recovered arms and ammunition included two pistols, two revolvers, two short guns, two rifles, one thousand bullets, gun powder, two walky-talkies, two remote control devices and bomb throwing machines.

A number of Islamic jihadi books were also seized from the Islamic school-cum-orphanage, which the London based charity Green Crescent established on 12 acres of land four years ago.

Local Police had earlier suspected connections of banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) with the recovered arms and ammunition from the Islamic school-cum-orphanage.

JMB has been campaigning for establishment of Islamic rule in Bangladesh. The outfit staged synchronized serial bombings in 63 out of the country's all 64 districts including capital Dhaka on Aug. 17, 2005, leaving 2 people killed, 150 injured.
