Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had an audience with Supreme Head Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Negara (National Palace) Thursday to hand over the letter relinquishing the post of prime minister and to seek consent to appoint Najib Tun Razak as his successor.

"It's a matter for Tuanku (Supreme Head)," he told reporters after the meeting which lasted about an hour.

Badawi arrived at Istana Negara at 10:00 a.m. and left at 11:00a.m.

Najib entered Istana Negara 23 minutes after Badawi leaving the palace.

Badawi is scheduled to hand over the post of prime minister to Najib, who already has become the president of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the leading ruling party in the country.

It was reported that Najib was expected to be sworn as Malaysia' s sixth Prime Minister on Friday.
