Hong Song Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), died at the age of 79 on Tuesday, the official KCNA news agency said Wednesday.

Hong, born in Jongju City, North Phyongan Province, was also concurrently an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly.

"He was a revolutionary soldier loyal to the WPK who devoted himself to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche true to the leadership of the Party and the leader," the KCNA cited an obituary as saying.
