Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Abdul Razak was declared as the new UMNO President here on Thursday, Malaysia's national news services Bernama said.

Najib was declared as the new president of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) at the party's ongoing General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC).

Local newspaper The Star also reported that Najib Razak has been officially declared the new UMNO president.

The announcement was made by UMNO Permanent Chairman Onn Ismailon Thursday at the PWTC, where the headquarters of the country's leading ruling party is located, the daily said.
