Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Friday sued Deputy Prime Minister for defamation after the latter accused Thaksin of intending to become President of Thailand.
Udom Prongfah, Thaksin's lawyer, went to the Criminal Court Friday to file the defamation suit against the Democrat party's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, according to the Bangkok post website
Suthep said recently Thaksin compared himself with former South African president Nelson Mandela during his phone-in to a seminar of opposition Phue Thai party in early February, adding that it made everyone understand Thaksin aspired to become president like Mandela.
The court accepted the case, and has scheduled May 18 for a hearing.
Puea Thai MP Chaowarin Latthasaksiri earlier defended Thaksin by saying that Thaksin only said he would return as prime minister, not as president.
