Ten people died when an engine boat capsized in Nabinagar sub-district of Bangladesh's eastern Brahmanbaria district, 109 km northeast of capital Dhaka, local police said on Sunday.
Police chief of the Nabinagar sub-district Mohammd Nehazuddin told Xinhua over phone that the boat with some 40 passengers on board was hit hard by a ferry in Titas river at noon.
The engine boat then capsized and ten passengers, including 9 women and one baby, died, he said.
The rescuers have recovered the ten bodies, said Nehazuddin.
Private news agency UNB earlier reported that some 25 other passengers were injured and three of them were sent to hospitals.
Bangladesh has some 230 rivers and boat and ferry capsizal accidents took place frequently due to poor safety standards and overloading of passengers and goods.
On Jan. 19, some 25 people died after an earth-laden trawler capsized in a river in Bangladesh's southeastern Chandpur district, about 115 km from capital Dhaka.
