Thailand's Minister of the Social Development and Human Security Witoon Namburt has resigned on Tuesday after facing a scandal of corruption.

Witoon was accused by Puea Thai opposition party of distributing some rotten tinned fishes to floods victims in Patthalung province in the south of Thailand last month.

"There has been no pressure from any party executives. I have made the decision on my own for the benefit of the party," Thai News agency quoted Witoon as saying.

Witoon was Democrat party's member of the House of Parliament for Ubon Rachthani constituency in the Northeast of Thailand. He is the first in the month-old Democrat-led coalition government toquit the job since its ruling on Dec. 17.
