A moderate earthquake with magnitude 5.5 rocked eastern parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, with no reports of damage or casualties, meteorology agency said.

The quake jolted at 12:46 Jakarta time (0546 GMT) with epicenter at 112 km northwest of Melonguane, North Sulawesi province, and at 281 km in depth, an official of the agency said.

Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
