Afghan security forces backed by the international troops have killed and wounded nearly 30 militants in southern Afghanistan, said a statement of Defense Ministry released here on Thursday.

Afghan security forces and international troops engaged with insurgents in Arghandab district of Zabul province, killing and wounding 18 of them, the statement said.

In another incident, 10 suspected militants were killed on Wednesday by Afghan troops in an operation targeting drug traffickers in Gereshk district of Helmand province.

The clashes, according to the statement, have caused great casualties, but it failed to give any further information and exact number of casualties.
