The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) filed the nominations of the president candidate on Thursday.

After failing to pick up the common name of president with the third largest Constituent Assembly (CA) party the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML), the CPN-M on Thursday morning decided to put their own candidates for the presidential polls.

CPN-M's chairman Prachanda told reporters, "we couldn't reach consensus on the candidate proposed by the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC)."

"We have decided to file the name of republican leader Ram Raja Prasad Singh for president and CPN-M lawmaker Shanta Singh for the post of vice president," Prachanda said, adding "we would continue our attempt to gather consensus until we will vote for president on Saturday."
