The tribal elders and local provincial government of Pakistan Wednesday inked a peace agreement in Khyber tribal Agency, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported.

According to the agreement, local pro-Taliban militants in the whole region of Khyber Agency will remain peaceful and not display their arms, said the report.

The local government of North West Frontier Province also pledged conditional troop pullout from the area.

Security forces launched an offensive against local militant groups in Khyber Agency in late June in a bid to ensure peace in the area. The authorities last week directed the army to suspend its operation so that the elders and militants could hold peace talks.
