An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Timor Leste on Friday evening, no immediate reports of damage or casualties, Indonesian meteorology agency said here.
The quake jolted at 20:42 Jakarta time (1342 GMT) with epicenter at 278 kilometers northeast of Dili, the capital of Timor Leste and at 113 kilometers under the ocean floor, an official of the agency named only Amran said.
"We did not issue a tsunami warning," he told Xinhua.
Timore Leste, which shares an island with Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-prone zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates meet and cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements. Source: Xinhua
