Four Taliban insurgents were killed in Afghanistan's southern province Kandahar as they came in contact with government forces over weekend, a local military officer said Sunday.

"The clash took place on Saturday in Panjwai district when the rebels attacked a convoy of Afghan troops, and the soldiers returned fire, killing four enemies," Shirin Shah told Xinhua.

He also said that there were no casualties on government forces.

Taliban militants have not made any comments.

Militancy and conflicts have claimed the lives of more than 400people, mostly civilians, so far this year in Afghanistan.
