Party leaders commit to hold elections as campaign of building new Nepal

Top leaders of three major Nepali political parties have expressed their commitment Tuesday to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections scheduled for April 10 as a campaign of building a new Nepal through restoring lasting peace and institutionalization of democracy in a free, fair and impartial manner.

The meeting of the leaders that took place in Kathmandu Tuesday morning has urged all political parties, election candidates, civil society, and professional people including general people to help make the CA elections a success.

Expressing 10-point commitment for holding the elections in a free and fair manner and upholding people's right to free vote, the meeting also called on all to carry out their activities as per the commitment.

The urge has been made through a press release issued after signing of Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Chairman Prachanda.

The meeting also expressed commitment to not bring any obstructions in the election campaigns and publicity program of whosoever the candidates and parties are, to not give any statement affecting the election environment, to not intimidate, threat, physical and mental torture and to take actions against those who perpetrate such actions in the elections.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to set up all party mechanism in the district, to make arrangement of a hotline in district administration and police offices to receive information of the events breaching election code-of-conduct and disrupting elections in a bid to help hold the elections in a smooth and credible manner

The meeting also decided to form a monitoring committee comprising civil society leaders in center to facilitate to resolve the problems in course of holding the elections in a free and impartial manner.
