Afghan troops have detained 17 persons with suspected links with Taliban insurgents, a press release of Afghanistan Defense Ministry said Sunday.

These suspected militants were captured from Yaqubi and Sabri districts of Khost province in east Afghanistan on Saturday night, the ministry said.

It added that a number of arms and ammunition including two assault rifles and eight hand grenades were also recovered from their possession.

The ministry did not give more details.

The Taliban, fighting Afghan government and foreign troops since being ousted from power by a U.S.-led military invasion in late 2001, have yet to make comment.
