Local Taliban on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the abduction of the Pakistani Ambassador to Kabul Tariq Aziz-ud-Din and expressed their willingness to release him in return for Taliban commander Mullah Mansoor Dadullah.

Local Taliban told the chieftains in Khyber agency to convey their message to the government that they agreed to free Tariq Aziz in exchange for Mullah Dadullah, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported.

Tariq Aziz, along with his driver and two security guards, left Peshawar for Kabul at 11 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) on Monday, but did not reach the border town of Torkham. Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said that he might had been kidnapped in Khyber tribal region.

Mullah Dadullah was arrested along with his accomplices after a gun battle with the security forces in Balochistan in which he wascritically wounded.
