Ukraine's Foreign Ministry Thursday called for an objective and detailed investigation of the assassination of Pakistan's opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

The ministry said in a statement that it was shocked by the acts of violence by the extremists on the eve of parliamentary elections in the country.

The statement expressed the hoped that the Pakistani people and the leadership would exercise restraint and never give in to the extremists' provocation for the sake of an honest, free election.

Bhutto, the 54-year-old former Pakistani prime minister, died Thursday evening in hospital after sustaining fatal wounds in a bombing attack during an election rally at the Liaquat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, some 30 km south of Islamabad.

Pakistan's Interior Ministry said that at least 10 people were killed and dozens wounded in the attack.
