Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi arrived in Afghanistan capital Kabul Sunday morning and held talks with President Hamid Karzai, an official at Afghan Presidential Palace said.

The official who did not want to be named also did not say anything on the subjects discussed between the two leaders.

Premier Prodi's visit to Kabul follows a day after the tour of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to Afghanistan and assuring their continued support to the post-Taliban nation.

Some 2,000 Italian troops have been serving under NATO command in Afghanistan to help strengthen stability in the war-torn country.

Premier Prodi is expected to visit Afghanistan's western Herat province where most of Italy's 2,000 troops have been deployed to help Afghan government ensure stability.
