Afghan army along with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killed at least 20 Taliban insurgents in an overnight battle on Sunday in southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a local official said Monday.

Sayed Aqa Saqib, provincial police chief, told Xinhua that Afghan troops and ISAF launched a joint operation for clearing up Taliban outfits in Jalai district of Kandahar province four days ago.

"During the two hours' fighting at Sunday night, the combined forces killed 20 Taliban insurgents, injured nine and captured four others," he said.

Saqib said the operation was concluded and there were no casualities in the joint forces.

Taliban has not yet made any confirmations.

The war-torn Afghanistan has witnessed the bloodiest violence in 2007 as rising militancy-related violence and conflicts have killed over 6,000 people mostly insurgents this year.
