The Sri Lankan capital of Colombo was hit by another explosion late Wednesday afternoon with more than 30 people feared killed or injured, defense officials and local media said.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the explosion happened near a supermarket in Colombo's eastern suburb of Nugegoda around 5:50 p.m. (1220 GMT), and the explosion also caused fire in the area.
Nanayakkara said casualty figures are not available at the moment, but the state television said 16 people were killed and 20were injured in the explosion.
Early on Wednesday, a female Tamil Tiger suicide bomber killed one people and injured two others after exploding herself near the office of Douglas Devananda, the minister of Social Services and Welfare.
