"Unfriend" to be the "Word of Year"

According to a foreign media report, the word "unfriend" has been announced as the "word of Year" by New Oxford American Dictionary.

Unfriend: a verb, to remove someone as a ‘friend’ in a social network-obsessed culture, explained in New Oxford American Dictionary.

In addition, many IT industry-related terms including Twitter labels "hashtag", "netbook", "paywall" as well as "freemium", etc. have also become candidates for 2009 annual terms.

Hashtag: sign added to a word or phrase that enables Twitter users to search for tweets (postings on the Twitter site) that contain similarly tagged items and view thematic sets

Intexticated: distracted because of texting on a cell phone while driving a vehicle

Netbook: a small, very portable laptop computer with limited memory

Paywall: a way of blocking access to a part of a Web site that is only available to paying subscribers

Freemium: a business model that works by offering basic services for free, while charging a premium for advanced or special features.
