The International Bird-watching Festival at the Yalu River Mouth Wetland was inaugurated at the Yalu River Mouth Wetland National Nature Reserve in Donggang of Liaoning Province on April 26.
The Yalu River Mouth Wetland National Nature Reserve covers an area of around 100,000 hectares, featuring ecosystem diversity and rare species from similar zones around the world. It is a precious base of biodiversity, as well as a permanent biological gene bank. Statistics show that in this fertile wetland live 365 kinds of plants, 250 kinds of wild birds and 76 kinds of fish.
The Yalu River Mouth Wetland is an important habitat for migratory birds for the world's 10 flyways. Each year, it can support 500,000 migratory birds of as many as 240 kinds to perch for foraging, including the world's endangered species of birds such as Saunders's Gull and Black-faced Spoonbill.
The eight-day bird-watching festival is co-sponsored by four agencies, including Donggang Municipal Government and Dandong Tourism Bureau.
