The leaders of Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities met on Friday in a bid to push preparatory works for reunification talks but failed to work out a timetable for substantive negotiations.
After more than three-hour meeting in the UN-controlled buffer zone in Nicosia, Greek Cypriot leader and President Demetris Christofias announced with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talatthat they will come together again in the second half of June to make a new assessment of the preparations.
This was their first formal encounter since the two leaders decided on March 21 to revive the process to reunite the east Mediterranean island divided since 1974.
