Fijian interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said in Suva that his government was committed to hold general elections in March next year, the Fiji live website reported on Wednesday.
However, for this to happen, there needs to be constructive dialogue and engagement among all the interested parties in Fiji, the international community and major trading partners, he told delegates of the Australia-Fiji Business Council.
Bainimarama added that the interim government will keep its doors open for dialogue with interested parties.
Bainimarama said that the basic direction and intentions of his administration involve taking Fiji toward sustainable democracy.
He said it has not been easy to work toward restoring civilian rule, while at the same time trying to carry out the roles and functions to ensure good governance and sound economic management. Source: Xinhua
