S Korea's unemployment rate rises to 3.3% in January

South Korea's unemployment rate stood at a nine-month high of 3.3 percent in January due to seasonal factors in the agriculture, fishery and construction sectors, said the Korea National Statistical Office (KNSC) on Monday.

According to a report by the KNSC, the jobless of last month rate was 0.2 percent higher than that of December, 2007, which means 235,000 more people became jobless in January.

It is the highest rate since that of April last year, when the corresponding figure stood at 3.4 percent.
