German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Berlin next week, a government spokesman said Friday.

The meeting, scheduled on Friday, is likely to be dominated by integration issues, bilateral ties, as well as Turkey's bid for EU membership.

Merkel has recently reaffirmed her opposition to full EU membership for Turkey and instead called for "a privileged partnership," which was rejected by Turkey.

Turkey has so far opened talks with the EU in six of the 35 policy fields that candidate nations are required to complete before full accession.

About 1.74 million Turks live in Germany and integration of this biggest foreign ethnic has long been a big concern for Germany.
