One Canadian soldier was killed and another injured when their armored vehicle struck a suspected roadside bomb Tuesday in southern Afghanistan, Canada's Defense Ministry said.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. local time in Kandahar, during a presence patrol in the Arghandab District, approximately 10 km North of Kandahar city, the ministry said in a press release.
The injured soldier has been released from hospital.
Canada has about 2,500 troops operating in Kandahar province. Since 2002, 77 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat have died in Afghanistan.
