At least 14 children were killed in a road accident in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Wednesday, the News Network International news agency reported.

A trolley rammed into a motorcycle rickshaw near the city of Okara, leaving 14 children dead and three others injured, said the report, adding that the rickshaw driver was also killed in the accident.

All the children aged 7-12 were from a small village. They were on the way to school when the accident took place.

Police said that the accident occurred when the trolley was out of the driver's control and hit the roadside barricades and crushed the rickshaw.

The news report said the trolley driver escaped from the scene.
