The 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development, to be held here on Dec. 3-7, will pay high attention to creating opportunities for disabled people, local newspaper Vietnam News reported Wednesday.

The meeting will review progress in social welfare and development in the region and work out ways for ASEAN members to cooperate more in the future, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalid and Social Affairs Dam Huu Dac was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

More than 120 delegates including ASEAN social welfare ministers and partners, the ASEAN Secretary General and Secretariat, and representatives of international organizations are expected to attend the meeting.

Before the meeting, a forum will be held for representatives from government and non-governmental organizations of ASEAN member countries to work out recommendations for the meeting.

The meeting is held every three years and the last ASEAN social welfare ministerial meeting was held in Thailand in 2004.
