Pakistan's cricket legend and Chairman of the Pakistan Tehrik Insaaf (Justice Movement) Imran Khan Thursday called for boycott of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Khan, who was freed Wednesday from jail, told a news conference that he would call on leaders of a major opposition alliance to stay away from the elections under President General Pervez Musharraf.
Leaders of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) are to meet on Nov. 23 to decide whether or not to take part in the elections scheduled on Jan. 8.
He said that his group was part of the APDM and a decision of boycott would be taken at the forum.
Khan said that transparent elections would not be possible under Musharraf.
"If the situation remains the same, General Musharraf and his cronies will be elected in the elections," he said.
Khan said that election would be worthless without the restoration of the judiciary, adding that restoration of judiciary was much important than emergency.
He said that he still considered Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as the chief justice of the Supreme Court.
