Anti Qaida fighters found 30bodies Saturday in a deserted area in southern Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

"Fighters of the Awakening Council in southern Baghdad found the decomposed bodies in deserted under construction houses in the Hor Rijab area," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The unidentified bodies were transferred to a police station in the Doura neighborhood in southern Baghdad, the source said.

Militants affiliated to the Awakening Council are Sunni groups backed by U.S. troops and Iraqi government to fight the Qaida in Iraq network.

The area where the bodies had been found has witnessed fierce sectarian strife during the past months, the source added.

The gruesome finding is the third of its kind in this month. Earlier in November, the U.S. and Iraqi security forces found there mains of 22 bodies in a mass grave in the Lake Tharthar area in the western Anbar province, and 17 bodies near the village of Hashimiyat, west of Baquba City in Diyala province in northeast of Baghdad.
