The Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan will announce the schedule of the forthcoming general elections after dissolution of the provincial assemblies Tuesday.

Local press reports Saturday quoted EC Secretary Kanwar Dilshadas saying that an important meeting of the commission would be held Monday to discuss the election schedule.

He said that the meeting was also likely to finalize the code of conduct for the elections in the light of consultations with the political parties.

He said that the EC would fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in respect of free, fair and transparent elections.

Dilshad said that error-free computerized electoral rolls had already been published which would form the basis of the elections.

There are some 80.5 million registered voters in Pakistan.
