A car bomb went off near a police patrol in northeast of Baghdad on Wednesday, wounding eight people including policemen, an Interior Ministry source said.
The blast occurred around midday in the Banoog neighborhood when the police patrol was passing near a mosque and a government building in the area, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The attack damaged a police vehicle, wounding three policemen aboard, said the source, adding that two civilian cars parked nearby were also damaged in the blast.
Earlier in the day, a roadside bomb detonated near Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone as a U.S. patrol passing by, killing a civilian and wounding two others.
The two bombings came after U.S. and Iraqi officials announced a steep drop of violence in the capital as a result of a major security plan aimed at checking the insurgency and sectarian strife in Baghdad.
