The U.S. White House confirmed on Monday that Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda would visit Washington and meet with President George W. Bush on Friday.

"President Bush will welcome Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda of Japan to the White House on Nov. 16, 2007 for his first visit here as prime minister," the White House said in a statement.

"Japan is one of America's closest friends and allies, and the president looks forward to a productive exchange on ways to further enhance our strong partnership," it added.

Earlier this month White House Spokeswoman Dana Perino said that during the meeting between the two leaders, the U.S. would urge Japan to continue their refueling missions in the Indian Ocean to support US-led forces in Afghanistan.
