Ukraine will strictly abide by an agreement with Russia on the Black Sea Fleet's base on the Crimean Peninsula, Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Kuzmuk said Tuesday.
The Ukrainian government will unconditionally carry out relevant accords signed with Russia on the base's lease, which expires in 2017, without any revisions, Kuzmuk said.
Kiev and Moscow signed an agreement in 1997 stipulating that the Black Sea Fleet's main base in Sevastopol, on the Crimean Peninsula, be leased to Russia for 20 years, with the possibility of extending the term.
In addition to the main base, the Black Sea Fleet maintains two airfields and a ship re-supply facility on the peninsula.
