The European Union (EU) has provided Tanzania 7.5 million euro (10 million U.S. dollars) in grants to finance four water and sanitation projects in the country.

The EU mission to Tanzania said in a statement that the money seeks to support efforts of the government of Tanzania to improve the provision of clean and safe water and sanitation services.

"The support confirms EU's commitment to support the government and the people of Tanzania in their efforts to meet the millennium development goals for water supply and sanitation as well as secure water resources for sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction," said the statement.

The EU support comes from the ninth European Development Fund which has so far provided Tanzania with 96 million euro (136 million dollars) for the improvement of its water supply sector.
