Three U.S. soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded near their vehicle in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The attack took place on Thursday in the country's province of Nineveh, a military statement said without providing further details.

The names of the killed soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.

The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,755 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
