A tourist boat carrying some 60 passengers for scuba diving in the Andaman Sea off Thailand's southern coast capsized Tuesday afternoon due to an unusually high wave, drowning one Israeli tourist, media reported.
The King Fisher boat with about 60 passengers aboard was heading to the scuba dive site near Phi Phi Island, a popular resort off Thailand's southern coastal province of Krabi when a three-meter-high wave struck the boat, according to Thai News Agency.
Krabi provincial governor Siwa Sirisaowalak ordered emergency rescue teams and all the tourists and local crew and staff were retrieved from the sea.
One Israeli tourist drowned, and her body was recovered. Another foreign tourist suffered serious lacerations from the boat propeller and was hospitalised, the report said.
