Slovakia and Ukraine plan to reach an agreement on visa-free movement across the two countries' borders for people living in the border regions even after Slovakia's entry into the Schengen area, the Czech news agency CTK reported on Tuesday.

"We want to reach an agreement on this in a short time," Fico said after meeting his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich without specifying any dates.

"Ukraine has already submitted its proposals for the agreement. I think we could sign the agreement in September," Yanukovich said.

According to Fico, Slovakia should coordinate the conditions of local border regime with Hungary and Poland.

The two countries are to enter the Schengen area that will toughen the border regime at the border with Ukraine, the outer border of the EU, together with Slovakia at the end of the year.

Both countries have launched talks on the local border regime with Ukraine.

Local border traffic is allowed by the European Union's regulations. The regime covers people living within a rage of 50 kilometers.
