The European Union (EU)'s foreign policy chief Javier Solana condemned "in the strongest possible terms" the terrorist attack Wednesday morning near Kabul which killed three German citizens.

"I am shocked by today's attack against a German diplomatic convoy near Kabul and I condemn in the strongest possible terms this terrorist act that killed three German citizens and left another one injured," Solana said in a statement.

"Immediately after the attack, I have been in contact with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and I have extended my sympathy and support to the German authorities," he added.

Solana said he had already sent condolences to the families of the casualties.
