Macedonian government's office was targeted in an alleged terror attack last night when two rifle grenades landed near the building, news reaching here from Skopje reported on Monday.

"Last night the building of the Macedonian government was the target of a terrorist attack," government spokesman Ivica Bocevski told a news conference, Makfax, Macedonia's independent news agency, reported.

He said the projectiles were fired from a distance of 400 meters and landed 100 meters from the building at half past twelve last night, explaining that the grenades were of South African origin.

No one was injured in the attack, and there was no material damage reported. Security was tightened around government institutions after the attack on Monday.

"The government wants to send a message to those who are involved in the attack that they would end up behind bars some day, " Bocevski said.
