Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana is set to officially announce the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of Madagascan Parliament.

The announcement will pave the way for a earlier election of the house, the date of which has not been announced.

Ravalomanana told the press here on Tuesday that the dissolution was aimed at adapting the situation to reality following the amendment of the constitution last April in a national referendum.

The election and the new house that follows would allow adjustment of the institutions, constitution and development of the island country, the French-language daily, Tribune, quoted the president as saying.

During his tour to the southwest province of Toliara last Friday, Ravalomanana first disclosed his intention to dissolve the lower house before the end of its legal term in May next year.

All the members of the National Assembly were given 48 hours to pack their bags and leave the assembly building, Tribune said on Wednesday, adding that control measures for these legislatives were very strict when they leave the National Assembly.

Assembly president Mahafaritsy Samuel and some members in the permanent office were asked to assure the management of the institution until new assembly is set up and new members come in.
