Agriculture ministers from 34 American countries will meet in Guatemala to discuss the impact of climate change on agriculture, Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) Director Chelston Brathwaite said on Sunday.

The meeting will be held from July 23 to July 27 in Antigua, a city 45 km from the capital Guatemala City, where the ministers will also discuss biofuels and the Doha accord, according to reports reaching here.

Brathwaite, organizer of the meeting, said the goal of the meeting is to facilitate the construction of a prosperous and sustainable agriculture.

"It will be an excellent opportunity to hold strategic talks about agriculture's future and to advance in specific issues that will allow a better level of life for our countries' rural communities," he said.

Organization of American States' Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza and other senior officials are expected to attend the meeting.
