The bodies of seven abducted Iraqi policemen, including an officer, were found in an area in Babil province south of Baghdad on Thursday, a provincial police source said.

"Our police patrols found seven bodies of policemen, including the body of Lieutenant Colonel Salam Hannon, police chief of Iskandariyah town, dumped in the Mwiylha area outside the town," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The victims were attacked and then adducted by a group of gunmen on Wednesday evening in a rural area outside the town of Iskandariyah, some 50 km south of Baghdad, the source said.

Iskandariyah, along with several large towns in the Babil province including Yousifiyah, Mahmoudiyah, Musayyib and Latifiyah, are parts of an area known as the "Triangle of Death" inhabited by both Sunni and Shiite Muslims.
