Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday Iran and the United States would hold the second round of talks over Iraq at the ambassadorial level in the near future, the official IRNA news agency reported. "The second round of talks will be held based on agreements already reached between the two sides. Iran strives to establish security and stability in Iraq," Mottaki said on the sidelines of a cabinet session. "Iran has always expressed readiness to help the Iraqi government and nation and will hold this round of talks to this end," he added.
Mottaki said on Tuesday that his country would like to hold a second round of talks with the United States over Iraq issue if Washington asks for it first. U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Tuesday the White House is prepared to have new direct talks with Iran on Iraq 's security. The first round of Iran-U.S. talks on Iraq was held on May 28 in Baghdad at the ambassadorial level with the attendance of Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazemi-Qomi and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. envoy to Baghdad.
