Gunmen shot dead eight men, five of them from one family, in a pre-dawn attack on Saturday in a town south of Baghdad, a local police source said.
"Gunmen stormed two adjacent houses in the town of Jbela, some 70 km south of Baghdad, killing eight people, including five from one family and the other three were their cousins," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Three men were also wounded in the attack, the source said, adding that all the victims were men.
The police is investigating the incident, the source said.
The town and other several large towns in the Babil province including Yousifiyah, Mahmoudiyah, Musayyib and Latifiyah, are parts of an area known as the "Triangle of Death" inhabited by both Sunni and Shiite Muslims.
